Week Seven

Traveling to Miami is never easy, however, the Dolphins have struggled so much at home this season that the Broncos will be very confident in being able to rack up a 3rd straight win.
Florida golden boy Tim Tebow is a crowd favorite for his incredible college success for the Florida Gators. It's expected to almost feel like a home game for the Broncos, with rumors of there being roughly as many Tebow jerseys, whether Gators or Broncos, as there will be Dolphins jerseys. It should be an exciting game for two teams trying to put themselves into a better position going into the second half of the season.

Game Notes
The Broncos have been shocking on run D all season, fortunately for them though, Reggie Bush will be out for this game. However Daniel Thomas is still a significant threat. Miami have been terrible at home so far this season, so Denver will look for that to continue, and to pick up their 3rd straight win, in an effort to take control of their Division, while Miami hopes to get back to .500 and slowly try and catch up to the Patriots who have an iron rule of the AFC East.

Week Six Recap

So after Bye Week for the Broncos, and Week Six's games played, the Patriots are now the only undefeated team left in the NFL this season, at 6-0. Here are the standings.

Bye Week

Coming into bye week, and week 6 of the season, it's the week of the trade deadline, and Denver is looking to make a minor adjustment or two, specifically at Tight End.
After brief negotiations with the Carolina Panthers for Jeremy Shockey, and the Patriots for Aaron Hernandez, the Broncos have decided to leave it, pick someone up from Free Agency, and wait for the draft, where they'll look to pick up a TE for the future.
This however means they've got to make room in the roster, and unfortunately, Dante Rosario has been let go. He's had 1 reception on the season, for 6 yards, in the loss to the Titans in Week 3.
The Broncos have signed Craig Stevens, to a 1 year deal for $540k. He's a strong run blocker, which will hopefully make a difference and allow Tebow to run the Read Option more successfully than he has so far this season.
Here's a look at the Broncos players statistics so far this year, after 5 games.

Week Five Recap

Five weeks into the season, and the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots still remain undefeated.
However there's a very tight battle for position in the AFC West, with the Raiders, Chargers and Broncos all on 3-2, and the Chiefs on 2-3. Division games, like this weeks Chargers vs. Broncos will really be a deciding factor on who clinches the division this season.

And of course, your gatorade players of the week for week five, are, Adrian Peterson, with 22 carries for 180 yards and 3 TDs. And Asante Samuel, with 1 tackle, and 3 INTs.

vs. San Diego Chargers

Invesco Field wasn't treated to a high scoring, fast paced game, but they got a close thrilling division match, and a home win to celebrate this weekend.
Another much quieter game for Tim Tebow, but he summed it well in the locker room, post-game.
"I feel great, you know. The big numbers we put up in the first few games were nice, but a win is a win, and 2 wins in a row going in to the bye week is a much better feeling than any big yardage, or scoring game."

The first half was very quiet, a defensive struggle as the Broncos failed to keep the drive alive, time and time again. By the 2 minute warning in the 2nd Quarter, the Chargers had managed to put up 3 field goals, and take a lead 9-0. Each one from inside the red-zone, the Broncos defense had held them short of a TD every time. Rivers went to Antonio Gates on all 3 3rd downs, but the defense allowed him no YAC, and kept the team in the game.
With one drive left in the half, the Broncos failed to convert on 3rd down, inside the San Diego 40. They controversially opted to go for it, and not take the points on offer.

This kept the drive alive, and on that set of downs, Tim Tebow brought it.

At the end of the half, it was 7-9 to the Chargers. The offense on both sides struggled to get going in the second half, and Philip Rivers made some terrible decisions, as seen here.

Denver made a field goal, to take the lead 10-9. From there the Denver defense continually shut down the Chargers, and with a strong running performance from Knowshon Moreno (McGahee was injured during the game, and sit the second half out), they kneeled out the clock to the their second consecutive win.

Week Five

Back at home in Mile High, against the Division rival San Diego Chargers. The Chargers are 3-1 so far this season, but after knocking off the 3-0 Green Bay Packers last week, the Broncos are certainly up the task.
The main storyline this week however, has been the injury to veteran CB, and team captain, Champ Bailey, who tore his Tricep in the game against Green Bay. The Team Doctors have said he wouldn't be able to play again this season, and controversially, to the Denver fans, the organization has chosen to place him on Injury Reserve.
With the rest of the Denver secondary relatively young, the defense looks to the 'Wolverine', Brian Dawkins, to continue leading the team to the success they maintained last week in Green Bay. However, without Champ, the CB position is light on strong depth, so Denver has looked to Free Agency, and found 8 year veteran from Duquesne, Leigh Bodden, and signed him to a 2 year contract, for $13.72m.
Unfortunately, the Broncos have had to cut rookie LT Adam Grant, to also sign CB Fabian Washington to a 3 year deal, for $21.84m.
This does completely change the CB Depth Chart, however looking forward over the rest of the season without Champ Bailey, this should certainly help the Denver pass defense. The 5 CBs dressing now are, in order, Leigh Bodden, Andre' Goodman, Fabian Washington, Jonathon Wilhite, and Cassius Vaughn.
With a home game against the Chargers, theres no better time to welcome Leigh Bodden and Fabian Washington to the Broncos organization.

The other talking point for media in Denver this week, was John Elway's extended 1 on 1 training sessions with Tim Tebow. While everyone has taken notice of the dangerous threat Tebow has provided with the deep ball thus far this season, Elway has been training the young QB on his accuracy, which has been a low 35% on the season. If Elway can help Tebow control the clock better, learn to adjust the plays at the line more, and complete passes to keep the chains moving, the Denver offense will be very successful this year.

With all of that in mind, lets take a look at this weeks Matchup preview.

The Broncos will look to run at the 2nd string ROLB this game, relieved that Travis Laboy is out. However, the Denver defense will have to stop the pass without Champ Bailey. The Broncos will hope their new signees can learn the patterns in a week, and fill up any gaps that may be open with Champ starting. The Chargers have not had much luck taking the ball away this year, only 2 turnovers on the season. Tebow will look to step back to form this week, and help the Broncos secure the win.

Week Four Recap

The standings have shaken up a bit after Week Four, with only 2 teams remaining undefeated after 4 games, the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC, and the New England Patriots in the AFC.

vs. Green Bay Packers

The Denver Broncos defense finally showed up, but Tebow didn't, in a low scoring defensive battle at Lambeau Field.
Denver wore their commemorative AFL jersey from 2010, and lost the coin toss. Green Bay elected to receive first.

Tim converts on 3rd and 11, by threading the needle in the coverage to hit D.T. for the early Touchdown.

Aaron Rodgers looked to reply after a slow start, but the Denver defense were on a mission to make a statement on the season.

Aaron Rodgers continues to struggle in the 2nd Quarter, throwing a horrible pass into Von Millers hands.

Green Bay gets 2 quick Field Goals in the last minutes of the First Half to bring the score to 14-6 going into the Second Half.
Willis McGahee keeps the chains moving, and runs the clock while Denver aims to slow the game right down in the second half.

Aaron Rodgers finally hits his stride, and his receiver across midfield.

Green Bay add another field goal, to come within 2 points with 2 minutes to go. The Broncos keep running the ball, and get 2 First Downs to ensure the Packers don't get another offensive possession.

Tim Tebow kneels out the clock, to bring the Broncos to 2-2, and their first road win this season.

Despite the win, it comes as a cost, as the Broncos suffer 2 injures during the game, losing Nate Irving for 2 weeks with a Dislocated Kneecap, and Champ Bailey, who tore his Tricep, will be out for the rest of the season, Doctors say. Not only is he one of the leaders on this team, but he has been having a fantastic season. This will really test the Broncos depth at CB, and they may look to move Champ to I.R. to free up space to sign a CB from Free Agency.
